Latvia Through the Wine Glass
Updated: Oct 3, 2018
Last month, my husband and I were fortunate enough to be invited to our dear friends' wedding in Latvia. Admittedly, it's a country that wasn't high on our travel bucket list, but it should have been. With its capital, Riga, having an old city romantic feel and lush green landscape as we drove along the countryside, Latvia is simply too beautiful to skip over when traveling through Europe.
We began our weekend getaway in the Old Town of Riga, and I immediately felt as though I stepped back into time. The cobblestone streets paved the way to architecture ranging from the Medieval times to Modern Day. Like many cities across Europe, there are pedestrian only squares and walkways, which makes dining outside at the restaurants that much more enjoyable... especially for The Wine Glass Photographer ; ). While sitting outside people-watching the locals alongside the tourists at the Key to Riga, I ordered my glass of wine to capture the view and savor the moment.
After feeling the regalness of Riga, we drove our rental car to the countryside to celebrate the beautiful marriage of our friends. It was here where we felt the Latvian culture to its fullest with the small town feels, welcomes and traditions. The district of Kandava offered such grandeur with the historic estates, while at the same time, such simplicity with vast green landscapes surrounding them. The 4-day trip was far too short, but at least we were able to get a glimpse of a country that is now on the top of our must-revist list!
